Did Arat Deserve To Die?

Was Cyndie justified in killing Arat? Should people be allowed to avenge the deaths of their loved ones even in the “no more bloodshed” society that Rick is trying to create?

Sonya says:

"I’m conflicted on this one. It’s very Utilitarian to say that everyone needs to put their issues aside and work together to increase the chances that everyone survives. But is that feasible really? The Saviors did some terrible things but let’s not forget that Rick sanctioned and led the slaughter of an entire outpost. No one’s hands are clean. Arat probably deserved it for killing a kid, but at some point everyone needs to agree to let go of the sins of the past and start fresh. If they don’t there’s no hope for a society at all and it will soon fall back into the strongest community taking advantage of all the others."

Sara says:

"Cyndie was absolutely justified in killing Arat. Arat knew what she was getting herself into by becoming a Savior so she should have been prepared to face the consequences. While I totally support Rick’s new “all life is precious” motto, I don’t think it’s going to work for everyone. There is a lot of pain, and a lot of bloodshed on every side. To say that everyone will walk into the future together peacefully is difficult to say at this point."

Sarabeth says:

"Taking revenge on your own will break apart every bit of Rick’s work. This is why rules must be in place. The past must be severed from community memory and the communities must move forward with rules if they are to survive."
