The Walking Dead season 9 episode 4 synopsis: The Obliged
The Walking Dead continues with season 9 episode 4, “The Obliged.” Here’s your synopsis of the all-new episode airing October 28, 2018.
It’s hard to believe that we’ve arrived at Rick Grimes’ penultimate episode on The Walking Dead. Whether Andrew Lincoln’s Grimes is gone for good or if he disappears like Heath, only to return at some point in the future, remains to be seen. But either way it’s time to prepare for the Big Goodbye.
(Author’s note: I have seen episode 904. It’s probably the best episode of the show in terms of dialogue, relationships between OG characters and the perfect blend of nostalgia and drama. If you haven’t been watching, I highly recommend tuning into this one. This is one episode that will be talked about for a long time to come and you don’t want it spoiled by social media.)
Here’s the episode description of The Walking Dead “The Obliged” from AMC:
“Rick’s vision of a civilized future is threatened by a sudden reckoning with past sins that remain unavenged and unforgiven.”
Everything Rick has been working towards since taking down Negan and the Saviors hinges on the peaceful coexistence between the communities, but Maggie’s actions inadvertently triggered a chain reaction that has launched those plans into uncertainty. The revelation that the Oceanside women have been killing the Saviors won’t help relations back at the camp, which puts the bridge into jeopardy.
Meanwhile, Maggie is going to Alexandria and she’s hell bent on meeting Negan. But after seeing Cyndie exacting revenge from her brother’s killer, Maggie might be after more than a conversation. She looks like she’s after at least a pound of flesh and she not going to stop until she gets it.
We knew Rick would be forced to confront his decision to not kill Negan so it’s not surprising that we’re seeing it all play out. What is surprising is that over 19 months have passed (18 months between 816 and 901, 35 days between 901 and 902) and the level of anger hasn’t diminished. Working together at the bridge site seems to be the flashpoint of the anger as the communities have had to deal with living and working side by side with those who caused so much pain.
The past is catching up to Rick, and Rick’s time is running out.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
