How Does Rick Make It Out Of This Alive?

With the odds firmly stacked against him, it’s not looking good for our hero. Rick needs medical attention and he has to somehow avoid the walkers bearing down on his location. He’s all alone and he can’t free himself.

If he plays dead, he might be able to survive. (But that’s not likely)

If he can lure a walker to him and kill it, he can use the walker blood and guts as a shield to keep the other walkers away. (This is very possible)

We know that Daryl was riding in the opposite direction so he’s not coming back for him.

However, Maggie and Anne (aka Jadis) could be moving toward him. With the herds converging it’s hard to imagine them going through the herd, but if enough time passes the herds might move through (maybe the horse leads them away!) and then Rick will be discovered. They both have radios with them and could call for backup. (Possibly, but not likely)

There’s another possibility here, and that’s the mysterious helicopter. Anne has been in contact with the helicopter and if it happens to be flying over it might spot the herds and go to investigate. If they spot Rick they might intervene, and it’s entirely possible that the helicopter would have tools on board that could cut the rebar and transport him to safety. (This is Rick’s best chance at survival)

It’s hard to imagine Rick Grimes dying from this injury. It’s not the most noble death, but if Rick dies then he died trying to save people and that’s very much in keeping with who he is.

For now, though, we’re going to focus on the positive. Rick has made it this far. Let’s hope the helicopter people find him and whisk him away to save his life. Even if he’s no longer part of the show, it will be a lot easier knowing he’s out there, somewhere, than knowing he’s dead.
