The Walking Dead season 9 episode 4 recap: The Obliged
The herd heard the shots and as they walk toward the noise they fall into the pit. Daryl starts killing them and using them to boost himself up. They’re dropping too fast, though. Rick is almost out but Daryl is behind him and the walkers are inches from his feet. When Rick makes it out he goes back for Daryl, telling him to hurry. Rick reaches for him. “Brother, take my hand,” he says. Daryl grabs him and they get out. They don’t have time for niceties because the walkers are all over.
The horse shows up from the camp and Rick decides to take the horse to lead the herd away. Daryl suggests using the bridge but Rick refuses to lose what they worked for. “Be safe,” Daryl says.
Gabriel wakes up in one of the storage units. It’s not Anne’s nice one, though. He goes outside to find that she’s gone. In his pocket is a note. “If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far go together. I need to go fast.” He cradles the note to his chest and sobs.
Michonne reads to Judith on the porch. They’re reading “Game Day.” She stops when she sees the bat. Judith looks at her when she stops and she continues the story, lost in thought.
Maggie and Dianne ride along and they see the dead walkers.
Daryl rides down the road.
Rick is leading the herd, riding his white horse. As they arrive at a crossroads the horse gets spooked when they realize that the two herds are about to merge. The horse throws Rick and he lands on a pile of debris. A piece of rebar pierces his stomach. He screams, but there’s no one there to help. He’s stuck and there’s nothing he can do. He closes his eyes and passes out as the herd approaches.
