The Walking Dead: The most important people in Rick Grimes’ life
By Jeffrey Kopp
Daryl Dixon
Brothers versus the world. Rick and Daryl had such a combative relationship when they first met, but have since evolved into quite possibly the strongest bond in the story. Things really changed when Daryl noticed how much Rick cared about keeping the group safe and together. Rick filled the void that Merle simply couldn’t fill, and the two have truly taken their relationship far past a simple friendship: they are brothers. There is something so magical about Rick and Daryl sharing the screen together. Even though season 9 has been rocky for them so far, they would still die for one another. The look that Rick has on his face when the two reunite at the Hilltop during episode 708 says all that needs to be said about their connection.
Glenn Rhee
Rick didn’t get to where he is alone. It was Glenn that decided to stick his neck out and save the amateur walker slayer at the very beginning of the story; a simple act of kindness set the story in motion forever. While they may not have shared as many scenes together in the later seasons of the show, Rick and Glenn had a bond that was forged from that initial meeting in the streets of Atlanta. Rick trusted Glenn to go out and handle supply runs and to get in and out of tricky situations as the group’s “go-to-town expert.” Glenn’s death at the hands of Negan really impacted Rick and he has since confided in both Michonne and Daryl that he thinks about Glenn every single day.
