The Walking Dead: The most important people in Rick Grimes’ life
By Jeffrey Kopp
Lori Grimes
Things were never perfect in Rick and Lori’s marriage. They had relationship issues even before the apocalypse began, but everything got complicated when Rick “returned from the dead” and effectively began the love triangle with Shane. Rick and Lori had a ton of disagreements throughout the first three seasons, but their ultimate mission that they could unite around was keeping Carl safe. These two certainly loved one another and Rick was absolutely gutted when Lori died giving birth to Judith. It sent him down a dark and disturbing path that took the remainder of season 3 for him to recover. Lori, along with Carl, was his first thought and motivation upon waking up in this new world.
Michonne
They’re the couple that found love in the most unlikely place. Rick and Michonne are a model for what a post-apocalyptic romance should be. There was pretty much no trust between them when they first met at the Prison; Michonne was still a lone wolf, and Rick was in a rough place after losing Lori. Finding one another when they did was crucial for their relationship and they quickly developed undeniable chemistry. For many seasons, they gave each other sly glances and subtle bits of flirtation until they finally consummated their romance in episode 610. Michonne is a member of the Grimes family, and as she noted in episode 904 when she refers to Carl as her son and Judith as her daughter. Rick and Michonne are co-leaders and act as such. They may disagree on certain points, but they stand united through all that they face.
