The good stuff from TWD 905

  1. Rick is one tough and resourceful SOB. For him to use his belt to pull himself off the rebar which he was impaled upon was pretty crazy. The pain the character felt had to be unbearable and Lincoln’s acting performance during the scene was absolutely amazing.
  2. In and out of consciousness. Using Rick’s mental state to introduce flashbacks, alternate realities, and fantasies was a fantastic choice for this episode and a great way to include a lot of different things which wouldn’t have happened if they stuck to just what was happening in real-time.
  3. Negan finally gets confronted by Maggie. Fans have been waiting to see these two characters interact and when it did, it did NOT disappoint. He got under her skin so easily and when he did fans got an almost near-identical scene to what happened in the comics. It was a powerful scene and great acting from Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
  4. The scene with the bodies. Rick looking at the bodies of all those he has been traveling with in a pile at his feet while unconscious was a total nod to the comics and looks exactly like a variant cover from episode 100. His conversation with Sasha was a great one and seeing familiar bodies in the pile reminds us of how far Rick and the survivors have come.
  5. Making walkers the threat. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it. People can be the main villains in a story arc, but the walkers need to be represented as a threat as well. Now that both Rick and Carl are both gone because of the undead, hopefully the terror of the zombies will be a much more serious threat going forward.
