Season 9 episode 5 of The Walking Dead was a powerful chapter in the zombie drama series but sometimes you have to give everything to keep things working.

Looking back on the Nov. 4, 2018 episode of The Walking Dead, there were a ton of things happening but the focus of episode 905 was taking in the final moments of Rick Grimes on the popular AMC show.

Add in some storylines about Maggie, Negan, Michonne, Anne, and others, and you’ve got a highly emotional episode with a lot of moving parts which all led up to an explosive scene which brought to the tears of fans.

It didn’t take a lot of consideration to come up with the most valuable person from this week’s episode, but here it is.

The MVP from episode 905 of The Walking Dead is Rick Grimes

Yes, this is pandering a bit because it is his final episode, but let’s give a lot of credit where credit is due: Andrew Lincoln put forth one of the most amazing television performances ever in this episode.

The way he sold the pain from his wound and showed off different sides of the characters in hallucinations was absolutely amazing and the fact Rick was still able to survive after everything that happened was a true testament to just how good this character was on the show and how great Lincoln really is.

While Rick didn’t want to use the bridge as a way to eliminate the walkers because he deemed the project to be too valuable to the communities, he eventually realized that is was his only real opportunity to get the walkers away from the others he loved. With one shot, he ignited dynamite on the bridge and ended the threat for now, but left his lover Michonne, his brother Daryl, Judith, and many others he cares about behind.

His sacrifice to keep everything together did something similar to what killing Negan would have done. It made him a martyr for the communities as a sign of unity and strength when killing Negan would have created a bigger divide. Hopefully, with the time jump, his sacrifice will be seen this way by The Sanctuary and the skeptical survivors there will come on board with the plan.

Thankfully, his sacrifice didn’t lead to his death. Fans will get to see more of Rick in the future, but sadly this was his exit from the TV show.

dark. Next. Was TWD 905 good?
