As much as a zombie apocalypse may make you WANT to give up, learn from Rick Grimes’s final episode of The Walking Dead: NEVER give up without a fight.

Life can be tough. It can be especially tough when you find yourself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse!

That said, in spite of all the awful things you’ll see and experience when the dead rule the Earth, no matter how much you may want to, you can not give up without a fight.

If you want to survive more than the first hour in a world with zombies, you need to be willing to fight to do so.

Survival will not be a cakewalk, and you need to be tough to fight back against all the things going against you; Against all the factors, both internal and external, that will be trying to kill you.

If you aren’t willing to make that fight, the apocalypse will swallow you, maybe even literally if the dead get their teeth on you.

And it’s that problem, the dead, that will be the worst.

The dead will not get tired. They can’t.

The dead will not get called back. They answer to no one.

The dead can chase you forever, and, if given the opportunity, will chase you forever.

My point? The dead won’t give up, so neither should you.

You see, if you give up, and not even try to fight back against the dead, what happens next? Well, if you’re part of a group or a community, that means the dead will almost certainly find their way to your group or community, and swarm over them like locusts, devouring everyone in sight.

Whether it’s against the dead or some other threat, chances are, people will be counting on you to fight for as long as humanly possible. Every second you keep on fighting is one more second the people you care about get to prepare or escape.

Of course, if the idea of giving up is something you’re even considering, it’s probably because you are not in the best shape, for one reason or another. You may be injured, or sick, or beaten up, or exhausted, or feeling like you’re at the end of your rope, but, for all you know, you might be the only thing separating everyone you care about from a horrible death, if you have any strength within you, if you have any capacity to fight on, you must fight, or else…it was all for nothing.

I know that there will be some part of you saying that fighting on against long odds will be futile, but, you have to tell those voices to shut up. So long as you can move and think and coordinate yourself, you have the capacity to keep going, to keep moving forward, to keep fighting, maybe even to win.

As Yogi Berra said: “It ain’t over till it’s over”.

Finally, if you find yourself in a situation you can not win, you still need to fight on, for as long as your body will allow you.

Think back to what I said earlier, about maybe being the only line of defense for your group or community.

If that’s the case, you might as well make those last few moments you have count, and give your people as much of a fighting chance as you can. Every zombie or hostile you defeat is one less that can bring harm to group, and gives them that much greater of a chance of surviving.

It’s better to die fighting…than to die quitting.

This is why you follow…The Rules.
