Who are Magna, Yumiko, and the new group on The Walking Dead?

A new group of survivors was introduced in season 9 episode 5 of The Walking Dead, but who are Yumiko, Magna, and the others from the comic books?

While episode 905 of The Walking Dead will forever be known as the final episode of Rick Grimes, there was much more that happened during the installment of the AMC zombie drama on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018.

Among those things was a time jump which was revealed by showing an older version of Judith Grimes saving a group out in the woods. That group announced themselves as Magna, Yumiko, Luke, Connie, and Kelly and should be very familiar to fans of the popular comic books.

Without giving away any major spoilers about these characters, it is fair to say that each one is quite unlike anything fans have seen before on the show with their mannerisms, skills, and personality traits.

In the comics, the group is introduced in issue 127 and traveled from Richmond, Virginia. Magna, who had been living in a secure nursing home at the beginning of the outbreak but found it to be unsafe and left with a group. While they never explained what happened at that location, it seemed bad enough for them to exit.

For the comic version of their introduction, their group is saved by Jesus and eventually brought to be interviewed by Rick. He asks who their leader is, but when Magna responds that they are a group with no leader, Luke steps in and says she is the one who calls the shots. Rick offers to let them stay for a while, but has them turn over their weapons for a period of time until trust can be gained.

It can be assumed that something similar to this will happen on the AMC show, with Judith bringing the survivors back to Alexandria to meet with Michonne about their future. However, fans should expect Michonne to be a bit more skeptical and bitter considering people their group has lost recently, particularly Rick Grimes.

Of course, many of the characters from this group are still around in the comics today, with a few of them having big roles in some of the major arcs currently happening. This means fans should probably make an effort to get to know these characters since they will likely be around for a while on the show.

The AMC show will probably use these characters to explain what happened during the time jump in season 9 episode 5, introducing some of the new looks from characters and developments in the communities, so don’t miss the next three episodes to learn more about TV counterparts of these great characters.

Magna, Yumiko, Luke, Connie, and Kelly will be great to watch going forward on The Walking Dead with hopes that many of them will be around for a long time on the popular zombie survival drama series.
