Enid

The Rhees have had a massive impact on Enid. She was a loner who struggled to fit into the communal life of Alexandria, but Glenn and Maggie both showed her the importance of people. Following the events of the No Way Out story arc, Maggie started to take Enid under her wing and since then, the two have developed a sisterly bond. Following the arrival of Negan and the death of Glenn, Enid was worried about Maggie’s wellbeing and decided to pack her things and move to the Hilltop. Enid can be described as a protector of Maggie, and it is clear from her actions that Enid would do pretty much anything to keep her safe and alive.

The two of them worked hard to transform the Hilltop during the Savior conflict and especially after the war concluded. When Earl tried to assassinate Maggie under Gregory’s guise, Enid was right there to protect her leader, even being injured in the process. Now that Maggie has departed, what will Enid’s role be? It is clear that the young survivor has learned a lot from both Maggie and Glenn, and it seems likely that she will carry on many of their traits in their absence.

Glenn Rhee

What is The Walking Dead without Maggie and Glenn’s relationship? For five full seasons, the love between these two survivors was the driving force of their arcs. In season 2, Glenn was an awkward and uncertain young adult who was left speechless by the charm of the farmer’s daughter. There was an immediate spark when Glenn got his first look at Maggie as she came charging at the group on horseback to collect Lori after Carl had been shot. From there, the two hit it off and became the most cherished relationship in the show. From their iconic pharmacy run to Glenn proposing to Maggie at the Prison, there are simply so many moments between these two that show us that love is very much possible in the apocalypse.

Forging a relationship such as this when the world is falling apart is a risky move. Following the destruction of the Prison, Maggie and Glenn were separated and fought tooth and nail to find each other again. Fans constantly held their breath in fear that a tragic end was awaiting this relationship. Glenn’s fall from the dumpster and Maggie’s pregnancy reveal in season 6 showed both the audience and these characters that the idea of them not having each other in their lives was just too much to bare.

Unfortunately, this idea became reality at the start of season 7 when Negan bashed Glenn’s head in and made Maggie a widow. Since that point, Maggie hasn’t been the same, but she has been working to make the world a better place for her people and for baby Hershel. Maggie and Glenn showed us that even though it may end in heartbreak, finding someone to fight through the apocalypse with is just too important to pass up.
