7. Beth Greene

Beth was really nothing but a glorified babysitter for several seasons. It wasn’t until the second half of season 4 when the group was split that she was even given a storyline. She was acting out a bit also after losing her father and getting separated from her sister. But she didn’t have the depth needed to act out without coming across as bratty and immature. Carl at 10 was more mature as a character than Beth was.

Beth’s time at Grady Memorial after being kidnapped felt random. The storyline never seemed to really be headed anywhere and when she was rescued and then subsequently killed it felt like it was long overdue. Her death was extremely sad but only because of the impact that her death had on Daryl and on Maggie. The image of Daryl carrying her lifeless body out of Grady Memorial and Maggie shrieking and falling to the ground is devastating. But the loss of her character didn’t really have any impact.

Many fans thought that Beth’s character was annoying and pointless, like a kid sister that won’t leave you alone but isn’t any fun to play with. But she ignited some serious shipping wars when some fans thought the relationship between Beth and Daryl had some romantic overtones and other fans didn’t. That was really beginning the of the shipping wars that rage even now, which is just one more reason to dislike Beth.

Emily Kinney, who played Beth, is a delightful actress with a wonderful singing voice, but overall, Beth Greene was a throwaway character that didn’t add much to the overall story of The Walking Dead.
