The Value Of Art In Society

Luke gave an impassioned speech about the value of art and music. Is Luke right about the value of art in rebuilding civilization?

Sonya says:

"He’s absolutely right. Of course when they are fighting for basic survival art goes to the bottom of the priority list but they are past that point now and they should be thinking about what they will be leaving behind and what they can pass on to the next generation. Art and music and storytelling also are therapy and evoke memories and emotions. They’re very important."

Sara says:

"I think that Luke has a really great point. Art is the best way for people to creatively express themselves, especially during difficult times. I really think that using art in rebuilding civilization is key to having compassion for each other again."

Jeffrey says:

"Luke is absolutely right about the importance of art. Without art and other forms of entertainment, what would separate the characters from animals? It is important to adapt and realize that the old world is dead, but that doesn’t mean that everything people used to enjoy has to die also. Art and music have been important since the start of humanity and as long as people are still around, that will be true."

Sarabeth says:

"Luke might be citing cavemen in his explanation of art and civilization but he’s absolutely correct about it, and moreover he’s thinking about where they came from, less than a decade from having an evolved society. They have to hold onto some elements of the past or else there will be nothing to carry forward."
