Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead, will be working on a new project called 5 Year with the help of eOne and Skybound Entertainment.
Robert Kirkman has the apocalypse on his mind. After striking gold with The Walking Dead and building an empire of comics, games, television shows, and even some movies, he continues to find new and interesting projects to keep viewers interested.
The latest announcement according to Deadline is the development of a new series titled 5 Year, which will be made by Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment and Entertainment One.
The plot of 5 Year sounds amazing. Deadline says it will cover the five years prior to the moment a massive meteor hits the planet and how different regions and cultures will handle the news of a possible apocalypse.
Even more interesting is that there are already deals in place to distribute this show. Korea, the UK, Latin America, Germany, India Russia, China, and Italy are already on board to air the five-season program but that’s not all.
Deadline added that there will be multiple versions of the television show that will be filmed in each market with characters based in that region and in the native language of that area to create a timeline of events in different areas.
"“We couldn’t possibly pass up the opportunity to work on a truly innovative project that blends multiple, local productions seamlessly into a story as it happens globally,” said Peter Micelli, eOne’s Chief Strategy Officer, Film & TV. “Robert’s talent for creating content universes and connecting with audiences through bold storytelling makes this partnership most exciting for us and we are thrilled to join forces with him and the Skybound team to bring a multi-level story like the 5 Year universe to audiences around the world,” Micelli noted."
Since the development of this project is in such an early stage, there is no estimated date of release or announcement of cast members who will be attached to 5 Year. But this is definitely something innovative and interesting to watch as this concept unfolds.
