Top 25 Walking Dead Villains of all time
By Nir Regev
3. Shane Walsh
Introduction: Shane Walsh was Rick’s partner and best friend since high school. It’s Shane getting with Lori, believing Rick was gone before his return, that created a rift between the two. Shane simply couldn’t get over Lori returning to Rick, even though he knew it was right and he should step aside.
Shane even had an opportunity to start a relationship with Andrea but relentlessly tried to win back Lori and maintain a fatherly connection with Carl. When news arrived that Lori was pregnant, Shane believed it was his (turned out to be right) and decided there was no going back.
Biggest moment of Villainy: Shane went on a mission with Otis only to push him down so walkers would be distracted by him, thereby slowing them down and allowing Shane to escape easily. This is tied with Shane putting Rick in his crosshairs and trying to ambush him.
Everybody Hurts Sometimes: Shane is most hurt when Lori officially tells him she doesn’t want him, though he should stay in the group. When Lori tells Shane her baby will never be his, even if “it is biologically,” the rage boils inside of him, leading to the planned ambush of Rick Grimes later on.
The Good Side: Shane wanted to be a good father to Carl and his future daughter, and loved Lori. Unfortunately for Shane, once Rick was found to be alive, his self-image of taking care of what he thought to be his “deceased” buddies’ family turned into a bitter rivalry.
First Appearance: “Days Gone Bye” (season 1, episode 1)
Last Appearance: Living – “Better Angels” (season 2, episode 12), Rick hallucination/dream scene in “What Comes After” (season 9, episode 5)
Cause of Death: Rick Grimes stabs Shane in the chest after refusing to hold up a weapon on him, catching him by surprise.
Memorable Quote: “I’m a better father than you, Rick. I’m better for Lori than you, man. It’s ’cause I’m a better man than you, Rick. ‘Cause I can be here and I’ll fight for it.” (To Rick)
