18. Gavin (The Saviors)

Introduction: Gavin was one of the more sensible of the Savior leaders, looking to simply maintain the status quo without stirring up further trouble. Despite carrying out orders like any Savior lieutenant, he actually expresses remorse, unlike other Saviors who think non-members are beneath them. He is saddened when he learns of Jared causing Benjamin’s death and later when he realizes he might have to harm Kingdom residents if they don’t turn in Ezekiel.

Biggest moment of Villainy: Unlike Negan, Gavin does not want to make consequences appear random, telling Richard that he’ll be next if he acts out again. When not enough supplies come in (thanks to Richard’s own doing), he tells Jared to take a shot, but Jared instead shoots Benjamin. Indirectly, Gavin is responsible for a teenager’s death.

Everybody Hurts Sometimes: Gavin later pleads with Morgan not to kill him when the tables are turned, saying it won’t bring Benjamin back. Morgan is about to do it anyway when Benjamin’s younger brother pierces him through the throat from behind.

The Good Side: Gavin believed in keeping things civilized. It was his job to take half of the Kingdom’s stuff, but he was not looking to humiliate anyone.

First Appearance: “The Well” (season 7, episode 2)

Last Appearance: Living – “Honor” (season 8, episode 9), Morgan hallucination scene in “Do Not Send Us Astray” (season 8, episode 13)

Cause of Death: Stabbed through throat from behind by Henry.

Memorable Quote: “It always comes down to this. It always has to get dark and ugly and inhuman.” (To Ezekiel)
