Talking Dead guests love the Price is Right set
Guests and audience members of Talking Dead get an extra treat when they visit the Talking Dead set: They also get to see the Price is Right set.
Talking Dead guests and audience members are treated to something special when visiting Chris Hardwick’s aftershow: They get to pass through the hallowed Price is Right set, and that can be very exciting for lifelong fans. As it happens, Chris Hardwick, Robert Kirkman, Ross Marquand and Tom Payne count themselves as big Price is Right fans.
Following their appearance on Talking Dead during The Walking Dead mid-season finale, host Chris Hardwick and his guests wandered down to the Price is Right set to take a picture with the show’s famous wheel.
Talking Dead films at the CBS Television Studios in Los Angeles, so it’s not uncommon to run into multiple shows filming at the same time. The set for Talking Dead is located on the top floor of the massive studio complex, which happens to be next to where The Late Late Show with James Corden is filmed.
Audience members screen the current episode on one of the sets, and the Price is Right set is usually the one used since tapings don’t happen on the weekends.
When I was in the audience for Talking Dead we screened both episodes inside the Price is Right soundstage, but at the time the show was on break so the Bill Maher show was filming inside the Bob Barker Set. (There’s a big plaque on the wall honoring the longtime Price is Right host) Incidentally, everything you see on the show looks much bigger on television. It was actually pretty shocking to see how small the studio is, and that all of the set pieces are on wheels and move in and out during filming.
Since the iconic game show wasn’t filming during my visit, we walked by the set pieces on our way through the studio complex and it was fun to hear how excited some of the audience members were to see the Showcase Showdown pieces and some of the games. (I would have loved to see the Plinko game but alas it was tucked away) It’s worth noting that you have to leave your phone at the check-in table before passing through security when you arrive, so audience members can’t take pictures behind the scenes.
While Hardwick was preparing for the show, he told the audience that he snuck down to the set with Colman Domingo, who spun the wheel and landed on a dollar on the first try, which leads me to believe that these clandestine Talking Dead trips to the Price is Right set happen regularly.
If you ever have a chance to be in the Talking Dead audience you’ll likely have a chance to see all of the set pieces to the Price is Right, along with the soundstages to several other shows that film on the CBS Television lot.
