Though we’ve yet to see the Oceanside women after the time jump on The Walking Dead, it would seem that they’ve already become legends.

It has been a tough road for the women of Oceanside on The Walking Dead, but now the colony has a new distinction, at least among the youth. During the mid-season finale Rodney was envious that well-traveled Henry had been to Oceanside, a colony full of women.

Despite their tragic history, the Oceanside women have become legends. The boys at the Hilltop have heard about Oceanside and the idea of a community of women is too much for their teenage minds. It’s very similar to what happens in classrooms when real-life students learn about the Isle of Lesbos or the legendary warrior women Amazons of Themyscira, which became the basis for the Wonder Woman universe. The idea of a land full of women never ceases to captivate the imaginations of students young and old.

Fans haven’t heard much about Oceanside since the six-year time jump. The Oceanside women were instrumental in helping Maggie arrive in Alexandria to see Negan. Rachel decided to not pass along messages from Rick that she was on her way. They were game to support Maggie after she seemed to support their quest for justice against the Saviors.

That was the last time we saw them. If the Hilltop teens have never met them it suggests that the Oceanside women retreated to their seaside abode and haven’t been seen since. Given that Maggie looked the other way when they were killing the Saviors, and given Maggie’s departure, it’s very possible that there is a connection. Perhaps Michonne’s reluctance to go to Hilltop, and how Aaron and Siddiq kept Maggie’s departure a secret, are clues as to what happened: Michonne, upon learning that Maggie knew about the Savior deaths, decided that justice must be served. Could it be that this revelation was the cause of the rift?

Regardless of the current rift between communities, the teens of Hilltop have no problem elevating the women of Oceanside to legendary status.
