16. Deanna Won’t Take The Easy Way Out

Season 6, “Start To Finish”

Deanna Monroe may have looked fragile and it may have appeared that she had never really adjusted to the apocalypse world, but appearances can be deceiving. Deanna lost her son Aiden and then her husband Reg. And she still was committed to treating Rick and the newcomers fairly and to rebuilding a society starting with the community of Alexandria. Even though she was physically not very strong she helped Rick fight the walkers that came streaming into Alexandria from the herd that broke off of the massive parade of walkers that were being led from the quarry away from the settlement. And in the process she was bitten.

As the walkers streamed in and surrounded the homes in the community Rick tried to find a way out for his family and the others, but Deanna stayed behind because she knew she was dying. Rick and the others that were in the house left her a pistol that she could use to take her own life to make her death easier and to keep her from turning into a walker.

But instead of lying down on the bed and ending her life Deanna chose to go out like hero. She used the bullets she had in her pistol to take down as many walkers as she could and went through the pain of a death being eaten by walkers.

She turned after she was killed and wandered off. Later Carl and Enid found her, and Carl herded her towards Spencer and Michonne who were out searching for walker Deanna so that Spencer could put her down. Hard to believe such a tough woman had cowardly sons like Aiden and Spencer. But Deanna went out like a boss on her own terms which is always heroic.
