29. Glenn Saves Tara At The Prison

Season 4, “Inmates”

Glenn had a lot of heroic moments. While his heroism was usually not talked about, he was both the moral compass of the group and the unsung hero for many seasons. It’s still hard to process his loss. One of his many feats of heroism and character was saving Tara back at the prison. Tara was part of the group that attacked the prison and killed Hershel. But she was a fellow human being and she was in real trouble. She’d managed to secure herself inside a metal cage, but she was surrounded and would have been trapped there without his help.

When Glenn woke up after getting knocked out by the explosion at the prison, he was still weak from the virus that ripped through the prison and killed many of the survivors. But he fought his way back to the cell block and then he grabbed the supplies he could and fought his way out to try and find the others.

That’s when he found Tara. And at first he looked like he might leave her. Certainly she would have deserved it if he had left her to die in that cage. But that wasn’t who Glenn was. Glenn never gave up on anyone and he wasn’t going to leave her behind to die.

Of course that ended up being a good thing because Tara has been a loyal fighter and community member over the years. But it’s bittersweet that she has survived all this time and Glenn hasn’t. However it’s highly likely that Glenn wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. He was always ready to die so that the others could live.
