The Walking Dead: 30 most heroic moments of all-time

9. Abe Won’t Cower Before Negan
Season 6, “Last Day On Earth”
The introduction of Negan and the infamous line up was one of the scariest moments on The Walking Dead. All of the characters were shocked by Negan and scared of what was going to happen. But Abraham would not cower before the bombastic Negan. Abe knew that someone was going to die from that lineup and while he didn’t want to die, he would have gladly given his life to let Maggie, or Sasha, or Rick, or any of the others live. That’s just the kind of person that Abraham was. He was a soldier and a fighter and not a person that was afraid of death.
So when Negan was walking around with Lucille making his speech the others dropped their eyes and adopted submissive positions when Negan stood in front of them and was threatening them. But Abraham Ford did not. Abe squared up to Negan and looked him right in the eyes, practically daring Negan to make him the example.
And in the end it turned out that Negan didn’t respond well to that. He did make Abe the example and the first victim of Lucille. But Abe died a hero for not backing down from Negan and for protecting the others by drawing Negan’s attention to himself to keep it off the others. Even though Abraham and Sasha had just started their relationship and Abe was happy for the first time in a long time, he put his own desire for a happy life with Sasha aside in order to protect others, which is exactly what anyone who knew him would expect him to do. Abraham died a hero.
