6. Glenn Saves Rick From The Tank

Season 1, “Guts”

Glenn has a lot of heroic moments on this list, which is a tribute to the person that he was and the legacy that he has left behind. But the very first one of Glenn’s heroic moments came early on in the season when he saved a “dumbass” sheriff from up the road aways who got himself trapped in a military tank in the middle of downtown Atlanta that was surrounded by walkers.

Glenn was on a run with the other survivors from his group and they needed to figure out how they were going to get out of the city and back to their camp. He had enough to worry about without trying to save the guy in the tank. But Glenn made the decision to help a person who was in big trouble and that decision kick started the entire story of The Walking Dead. If Glenn hadn’t saved Rick from the tank, then Rick wouldn’t have found his family and the entire epic journey that came after that wouldn’t have happened.

While it often seems like The Walking Dead has been the story of Rick Grimes and Carl Grimes, really it’s a story of survival and humanity. Glenn was the embodiment of that spirit of humanity when saved Rick from that tank in Atlanta and included him in the group without a second thought. Glenn didn’t think about whether or not Rick was a threat, he just saved a guy who was in trouble and that changed everything. Thanks Glenn.
