The Walking Dead: 30 most heroic moments of all-time
By Sonya Iryna
24. Carl Rescues Siddiq
Season 8, “The King The Widow And Rick”
This was one of the most pivotal moments in the entire history of The Walking Dead, but no one realized what was happening until after the fact. On the surface it appeared that Carl was doing what Lori would have wanted him to do and helping Siddiq kill some walkers.
He and Siddiq bonded talking about their mothers. Siddiq’s mother believed that the walkers needed to be killed to release the souls of the humans that they used to be. So Siddiq tried to kill as many walkers as possible, to free as many souls as possible, in honor of his mother. Carl helped him because he wanted to honor his own mother as well as Siddiq’s.
But Carl was bitten while he was killing walkers with Siddiq, and ultimately died. When given a choice, Carl always made the heroic choice which is something that would be expected from the child of Rick Grimes. But what Carl thought was a simple activity of killing walkers which he had been doing successfully for years ultimately killed him. And it was a reminder for all of us, as well as for Rick, Michonne, and the others, that walkers are still dangerous. They are a constant and ever-present threat and the survivors should never get too comfortable around them.
Carl brought Siddiq into the community and gave Alexandria a doctor again. Unfortunately it cost him his life and changed the trajectory of The Walking Dead forever. But as everyone knows no one in The Walking Dead world is safe and death is the only constant. The only thing that you do is make your death count, and Carl made his death count by using it to help someone else.
