Troy Otto is coming back to Fear the Walking Dead in season 5, but will he return with a vendetta or is there another plan for him?

Getting whacked in the head with a hammer by the same person who stuck a spoon in your eye isn’t easy, but it was par for the course in Troy Otto’s time on Fear the Walking Dead. The season 3 villain, who started to garner sympathy as he fell under Madison’s watchful eye and became a friend to Nick Clark, is set to return in season 5 after he was believed to be dead.

Madison killing Troy Otto was one of the mysteries of season 3. Though we technically never saw his dead body, she hit him hard enough with a hammer to think that he wasn’t coming back, one way or the other. It happened so fast and was so unexpected that it was one of the jaw-dropping moments of the season.

Troy, who was searching for approval from his father, was also a bigot like Jeremiah Otto, but his desire for a maternal influence gave Madison a great deal of power over him. Troy ended up bonding with Nick, and after a drunken and drug-infused night of partying it looked like they were brothers. Then out of the blue Madison killed him at the dam before making her escape. It was almost like she didn’t think they could make it long term with unstable Troy in tow, and now it might be that she didn’t kill him after all.

So now that he’s “back” in some capacity, where might Troy Otto fit in season 5?
