The Walking Dead still appeals strongly to the 16-54 age group

Despite a drop in live television viewership, The Walking Dead remains quite popular with viewers ranging from 16-54 years old according to a recent survey.
Halfway through the show’s ninth season, The Walking Dead has grabbed the hearts and flesh of fans of many ages and put them in front of television sets on Sundays for new episodes of AMC’s zombie survival drama series on a regular basis.
However, like many shows, as the series goes on, some viewers tend to drop off. Still, a recent survey completed by Uniting Generations shows that some age groups still love to watch the undead series remains very strong with younger people.
The results of the survey showed some unique numbers for different age groups that show the power the show still has. Here is the popularity of The Walking Dead based on age groups:
- Ages 16‑24: 38.1% viewer rate
- Ages 25‑34: 40.5% viewer rate
- Ages 35‑44: 36.3% viewer rate
- Ages 45‑54: 31.3% viewer rate
- Ages 55+: 13.7% viewer rate
It’s interesting that at least three out of every ten people asked about The Walking Dead in this survey between the ages of 16 and 54 watches the program while nearly one out of every ten person age 55 or higher tunes in on a regular basis.
With strong numbers like that and the show already preparing for the tenth season in 2019, AMC’s zombie survival drama series looks to have a bright future for many years to come, however it might not be a program you want to put on the television when your elderly grandparents or parents are visiting the house unless you know they’re into it.
Uniting Generations declared The Big Bang Theory as the show with the best “All Ages Appeal”, but that was a category that The Walking Dead was never going to win based on the dark content, violence, gore, and other content not found in a network comedy.
Still, it is quite impressive that The Walking Dead has managed to stay so popular over the years and have such a following after such a long run on television as a horror/drama series and these numbers prove the passion the fan base has for the show is still very strong.
