Z Nation not renewed by SYFY while The Walking Dead stays strong
By Adam Carlson
Fans of zombie survival television shows got some bad news recently with Z Nation not being renewed but at least they still have AMC’s The Walking Dead.
Five seasons is a pretty nice run for a television show, especially one based on the undead that doesn’t take itself very seriously and faced major competition from other shows. That’s why Z Nation was such a nice departure for fans of the zombie apocalypse.
Z Nation and The Walking Dead offered different takes on the genre, but there were some fans who enjoyed them both. However, some bad news was handed down by SYFY about their TV series.
Sharknado and Z Nation producer, as well as CEO of The Asylum, David Michael Latt, recently took to Twitter to tell fans the show hasn’t been renewed for a sixth season and the program will end after five seasons. Deadline shared the news as well.
Seeing another horror-themed show bite the dust isn’t great news for the genre as a whole, but the good news is that The Walking Dead appears to be safe for now, with strong ratings and a lot of support from AMC.
At this time, there has not been an official announcement that the flagship undead drama will return for season 10, but it would be hard to imagine AMC making the decision to end the show’s run at this point. Plus, there have already been announcements about movies, directors in future seasons, and more!
In addition, Fear The Walking Dead seems to be okay for the time being as well, even though the program recently made some massive changes to the show’s cast, plot, and atmosphere during season 4 and were greenlit for season 5.
While programs like Ash vs. Evil Dead, Hemlock Grove, Scream Queens, Bates Motel, The Strain and others have struggled to find a niche in horror television, those shows help to keep alive the feel and spirit involved in the genre.
The message here is that fans of The Walking Dead need to appreciate what they have with AMC. Scripted television shows rarely get a run of ten seasons or more. Viewers are lucky and fortunate to have enjoyed the show for the long and fruitful run it has boasted.
Thanks for the ride, Z Nation!
