Discussions return about Judith being immune on The Walking Dead
By Adam Carlson
There seems to be an obsession with the possibility of there being characters who are immune to the zombie virus on AMC’s The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead is halfway through its ninth season on AMC and it’s a quiet time for fans since the show is on its midseason break and Fear The Walking Dead won’t return to televisions for several months.
During the downtime, fans and experts like to think up theories about what is coming on the popular zombie survival drama series. In addition, many members of the show’s cast (past and present) enjoy hitting up the convention circuit as well as media opportunities to increase exposure for themselves and the show.
Recently, a popular theory about children being born after the initial outbreak being immune to becoming a walker has been making the rounds again. This time, it is thanks to an interview that Tom Payne had with Serieously Youtube Channel.
Here is what the former Paul “Jesus” Rovia actor had to say about the idea of Judith being immune:
"“I hadn’t even thought about that. But I do think that that could be a future storyline in the show, definitely. And I think, yeah, it makes sense that Judith could be immune. That would be cool. It would be kind of funny if she got bit and didn’t die and Carl got bit and did die.”"
There is a lot of debate as to whether or not making characters immune to becoming a walker is a good idea for the show or not. While it would definitely be a big change from the plot of the current story, it also has been done by other zombie shows including the recently canceled Z Nation.
In the past, Robert Kirkman has been very stern about not wanting to take that route with the show, stating the following:
"“No, that would be terrible. That’s not a storyline I like.”"
While it would provide an eventual endgame to the story, it seems like an odd way to make that happen. Judith, Gracie, RJ, other kids born after the outbreak would not have to worry about the bites from the undead, but they could still be torn apart by zombies, get fatally injured, or even die at the hands of other human beings.
Other websites such as FanFest.com, Comicbook.com, Express.co.uk, and others have shared the topic and gotten the discussion going again about whether or not this could (or should) happen.
What do you think? Should The Walking Dead go forward with a storyline about immunity or should it stay the course and continue with the story they are telling? Let us know what you think in the comments!
