Katelyn Nacon sheds light on Enid’s relationship on The Walking Dead

A relationship between Enid and Alden has some fans of The Walking Dead confused, but Katelyn Nacon fills fans in on some things they should know.
There were a lot of surprises for fans of The Walking Dead when the show executed a massive time jump in season 9. The communities weren’t bound together, some characters had matching wounds, and some interesting relationships formed.
One of the more intriguing pairings of characters was revealed in season 9 of the popular zombie survival drama when Henry was hoping to get a little closer to Enid only to find out that something was going on between her and Alden at The Hilltop.
Recently, an article was released by Insider about this topic and shared an explanation from Katelyn Nacon about why a pairing with Alden works while one with Henry would have been a little creepy.
"“I’ve been asked a lot because it is kind of a weird topic. He’s [Alden] honestly the only one that’s closest to me in age other than Macsen [Lintz], who plays Henry,” said Nacon, noting that Henry’s too young for Enid. “He’s 17, so he’s a minor.”"
So, when talking about ages, how old would Enid be around this time? Well, Nacon has done the math.
"“I did the math in my head. I mean, if we’re looking at last season, she [Enid] was probably about 16. And so there’s a year-and-a-half time jump, so she’s about 17 or 18 in the very beginning of season nine. And then after the five or six-year time jump she’d be about 22, 23,” said Nacon, estimating Enid’s age now."
And for Alden, his age estimation is in the late twenties according to the actress, so the pairing of her and Alden makes a lot of sense in her mind.
"“I’m [supposed to be] 23 and he’s [Alden], after the time jumps and stuff, I think he’s about 29, 28 or 29, in his later 20s. I’m in my early [20s]. So it’s not weird. No. Because I know a lot of people [are] like, “She’s 15!” And I was like, ‘No no no no no no no.’ It’s been a lot of years since then.”"
For the 19-year-old Nacon to play someone a little older than her actual age is unusual in television. However, The Walking Dead pulled off this look by doing something simple: cutting her hair shorter.
In the interview, Nacon revealed that she learned of the relationship by reading the script and was surprised to see that Alden didn’t end up with Maggie, as many viewers thought would happen when season 9 arrived.
The last time a topic like this had this kind of impact was when some fans wanted to see a relationship develop between Norman Reedus’ character Daryl Dixon and Emily Kinney’s character Beth Greene. Their age difference was a point of contention with some viewers while others saw the potential for a relationship.
The question is whether or not fans will be able to embrace the couple or if it will feel awkward going forward. Only time will tell how Enid and Alden develop on The Walking Dead, but for now, this couple makes sense to possibly be the new power couple at The Hilltop.
