2019 is going to be a big year for The Walking Dead, and Tara will have the weight of the world on her shoulders at the Hilltop. Here are her New Year resolutions.

Fans didn’t see Tara after the time jump on The Walking Dead until she showed up at the Hilltop, and for all intents and purposes it looked like she was running the show. As it happens, though, she was keeping the Hilltop going while Jesus tried to fit into his role as the leader. Now that Jesus is gone, things are about to change. Here are 5 things that should be on Tara’s list of New Year resolutions to help her through the transition.

Stepping Up

Tara already has the respect of the community. It’s unclear why Jesus has been elected to lead Hilltop (multiple times) in the past, but it probably has a lot to do with the fact that he was a member of Hilltop before Rick’s people ever arrived, and he had Maggie’s blessing when she left.

Now, Tara must formally take over and lead the people. They will be upset at what happened to Jesus, and the threat of a new danger will be hard for many residents to deal with after a long period of peace. Tara knows her people and she knows how to rally them, so she has to step up.

Stay Calm

When Tara was captured by the women of Oceanside, she couldn’t stop talking. She was nervous and uncertain and her defense mechanism was to talk. And talk and talk.

Tara has come a long way since her days with the Governor, and in the span of the time jump she has become a leader in waiting. She needs to show her people that they can get through this, and that means projecting an air of calm.

Carry On

Life must go on at Hilltop. Losing Jesus will be a major blow, to be sure, but she needs to keep everyone working. Their success has been built upon the community’s self-reliance, which can only function when everyone is doing his part. If things start to unravel at Hilltop, it will be an open invitation for the Whisperers to swoop in and conquer them.

Tara must keep calm and carry on, because that’s the way of the apocalypse.

Form New Alliances

Tara welcomed Magna and her people to the fold, and though we don’t know if Magna will choose to stay there or return to Alexandria with Michonne, we do know that part of Rick’s legacy is that everyone is stronger when working together.

There is bad blood between Alexandria and Hilltop. Things seem to be okay with the Kingdom. To win the battle against the Whisperers, everyone needs to fight together.

Forgive (But Don’t Forget) The Past

Bad things happened during the time jump. We don’t know what it was, but that’s the source of the bad blood. Tara must forgive whatever happened so that everyone can move forward, together.

Forgiving is not forgetting, though. Tara doesn’t have to forget what happened, but she has to let bygones be bygones in order to work together. That’s what Jesus would have wanted.
