The second half of The Walking Dead season 9 will test Michonne more than ever. Here are 5 New Year resolutions to help her come out on top.

Michonne has been through a lot on The Walking Dead, and after losing Rick and Carl she spent the time jump raising Judith and RJ while also keeping order in Alexandria. Something bad happened during those six years to cause a rift with the Hilltop and the Kingdom, but with the threat of the Whisperers looming Michonne will need to let go of the past to save the future. Here are five things that need to be on her list of resolutions for the New Year that will help her in 9B.

Keep Family Close

The surviving members of Rick’s group are spread out among the various communities and relationships have been strained. For the sake of the future, Michonne must work to mend the fences that have been broken. It won’t be easy, but forgiveness will help bring everyone together and together the group will be stronger.

Michonne might be keeping everyone away to protect Judith and RJ, but the reality is that keeping people away is only hurting them. Judith and RJ need to know the people who knew Rick and Carl so that they can learn more about their father and brother.

Learn From The Past

If the mysterious X on her back is any indication, something bad happened to Michonne (and Daryl, and possibly others) and she’s compensating for it by closing herself off. Instead of walling off the rest of the world, Michonne needs to take the anger from what happened and channel it toward the biggest fight yet.

Michonne needs to take the lessons from what happened in the past and make sure that history doesn’t repeat itself. As a single mother in the apocalypse, she has a lot riding on the future and the only way to make a future for her kids is to avoid the mistakes of the past.

Trust More

This one is easier said than done. With new threats abounding, being able to trust anyone when new enemies are dressing up like walkers is a tough one. But Michonne has been having trust issues for a while if her actions after the time jump are any indication.

Michonne has been hurt over the years, but if she is going to lead Alexandria in the fight against the Whisperers she must be willing to trust the people around her.

Remember Rick And Carl’s Legacy

There was a time when Michonne would have welcomed Magna’s group without hesitation after discovering that they are good people. Something bad happened to her that made her reluctant to welcome anyone to Alexandria, and while her reasons are likely very sound, she needs to remember what Rick and Carl died for.

Before the big time jump Michonne was drafting a charter, rules for the communities to live by. She believed in honoring Carl’s legacy, and she needs to return to that mindset now so that Judith and RJ can enjoy the vision of the future that Michonne, Rick and Carl were working toward.

Be The Badass

Michonne is a badass. The katana wielding mother of two is a fierce warrior who isn’t afraid of a fight. The passage of time hasn’t changed that one bit, and she needs to keep that energy going. She led people into battle before, and she must do it again to defeat the Whisperers.

And she has to kick ass and take names while doing it.

Michonne might have the most to overcome of everyone. She is a different person than she was when Rick was alive, and she’s stronger for it. However, she needs to let people get close to her again because the survivors are stronger together.

The Walking Dead returns on February 10, 2019.
