King Ezekiel has the family he always wanted, but the Kingdom is struggling. Here are 3 New Year resolutions to help him in The Walking Dead 9B.

Ezekiel lost Shiva and so many members of his community during All Out War, and now after the time jump on The Walking Dead he has a family. From what little we know, the Kingdom has been suffering and that’s why they need the faire to help them find new resources. But with the Whisperers coming, there isn’t time to reflect. The Kingdom must act, and so these 3 New Year resolutions should help Ezekiel along the way.

Own That Title

The King is the King. There has been a lot of talk on social media that Ezekiel isn’t a real king and that the title is a bunch of nonsense. He might not be a real king (then again, who is?) but I’d argue that not only does the title help to inspire his people (look at Jerry!) but I would add that “king” is synonymous with “sir,” “leader,” and even “president.” It’s a title to convey respect to someone who leads. Ezekiel was looking to become a figurehead when he took control of the Kingdom, and all these years later he is still the King, even after the atrocities suffered during All Out War.

Time has been unkind to the Kingdom, and the people need their leader more than ever. So own that title, Ezekiel.

Listen To Your Queen

Carol wasn’t part of the search party that went looking for Eugene. She left the Hilltop with Diane after dropping Henry off, and so she won’t necessarily know what happened to Jesus and the rest of the group until word reaches her…unless she runs into the Whisperers herself.

While Ezekiel tends to be the one who wants to study everything before acting, Carol is the one who acts first and never looks back. We’ve seen it time and again and every time she acts it’s with cause and it almost always saves the day.

With the threat of the Whisperers looming, Ezekiel needs to listen to Carol. If she says they need to fight, then they should fight. Ezekiel has always admired Carol’s strength, her instincts and her badassery, and this is one time where he really needs to let her call the shots.

Keep On Smiling

This resolution really doesn’t need much explanation, but I will say that Ezekiel is the one everyone looks to in the Kingdom (even though Carol is the one running the show). If the King isn’t smiling, people will worry. That’s how leadership works. Whenever Rick was worried, his people worried. When Rick was confident, Team Family rallied around him and fought even when they were uncertain themselves. It’s all about being a charismatic leader, and charisma is something Ezekiel has in spades!

With the future uncertain, Ezekiel must keep moving along. He has to protect his family and his people, and given the danger that lies ahead in the second half of season 9 the stakes have never been higher.

The Walking Dead returns February 10, 2019.
