5) The forces of Nature

I kind of chuckle at the notion of “the mercy of the elements” because…the elements have no mercy.

Just in the United States alone, you can see nearly all the extremes of nature: Blizzards, wildfires, floods, droughts, tornadoes, and earthquakes. Each one of these can be devastating normally, but, in a zombie apocalypse, they become so much worse.

The reason is, right now, when such disasters hit, people can come together and mobilize to aid those affected by the disaster in question. Yet, after civilization crumbles…who’s there to help? Will there be firefighters, EMTs, FEMA, The Red Cross, any of these groups/people to help?

No.

You will be left having to deal with these disasters not only alone, but, with said disasters going entirely unchecked. No one is coming to fight the fires, no one is coming to pile sandbags to stop the rising flood, no one is coming to pull anyone out of any rubble, no bridges, dams, or levees will be repaired or rebuilt; These disasters will keep on raging for as long as they damn well please and you’re just going to have to deal.

Don’t hope for the mercy of the elements, they never had any to begin with.
