7) Being our own worst enemies.

I know I tackled this idea last week, but, there’s more than one way we can be our own worst enemies. One is to doubt our ability to survive, and subsequently undermine ourselves, the other is, well, to let our despair consume us and commit suicide.

You might think you’d never do such a thing, but, you’re saying that in a world that isn’t overrun by flesh-eating zombies. If you’d watched society collapse, seen people killed either in the panic or by thugs and psychos, seen people getting eaten alive, lose friends and family to the dead or the mob, and were forced to fight your way through that madness, however, you would realize just how quickly and how easily the apocalypse could cause you to lose hope.

When this happens, the horrible idea of ending one’s own life starts popping into people’s heads more and more. Needless to say, this idea should be denied and stifled at every turn, since our ultimate goal is to survive.

Nevertheless, this is a threat we need to take seriously, when it looks like you’ve lost everything, bad ideas start to take root, and we simply can not allow them to take hold.
