Bird Box, the hottest movie on Netflix, takes place in a post-apocalyptic world full of unseen terror and it has a lot in common with The Walking Dead.

Bird Box has been scaring the hell out of people since dropping on Netflix in December 2018, and fans of The Walking Dead will find that both shows have a lot in common even though the causes of their respective world-ending apocalypses are very different.

Spoilers Ahead For Bird Box

While The Walking Dead takes place in a world where the dead have risen and are out to kill the living, we never see the monsters in Bird Box that drive people to kill themselves. However, there are many themes that overlap between the two shows that are worth exploring.

Let’s take a look at 5 similarities between Bird Box and The Walking Dead:

5. Kids. Am I Right?

Kids and the apocalypse don’t mix very well. Keeping Judith alive in the early years was a difficult, it-takes-a-community kind of feat. Sam’s breakdown in Alexandria led to his demise, while Henry and Carl both defied rules more than once and were lucky to survive. Carl’s death was an accident, but if he hadn’t gone out on his own it might never have happened in the first place.

For Mallory and Tom it was the reverse: Keeping Boy and Girl alive as infants was probably much easier because they didn’t have to go outside. Aside from crying, they were easily contained. As older kids, though, keeping Boy and Girl from venturing outside, or ripping off the blindfold, is a daunting task because kids will be kids.

Next slide: Things always fall apart quickly.
