Danai Gurira to present at the 2019 Golden Globes
Danai Gurira will present an award at the 2019 Golden Globes ceremony on January 6. Here’s what you need to know to watch her live!
The Walking Dead will be well represented at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 6. Danai Gurira will present an award during the course of the evening, and she’ll be cheering on Black Panther along with her fellow cast members.
Gurira plays Okoye, leader of the powerful Dora Milaje who protect King T’Challa, leader of Wakanda and the man who brings the legendary hero Black Panther to life. Okoye, like Michonne on The Walking Dead, is a fierce warrior who can more than take care of herself.
After a record-shattering box office run, Marvel’s Black Panther has achieved another milestone as it becomes the first superhero movie to earn a nomination for Best Drama – Motion Picture. The other nominees in the category include Bohemian Rhapsody, BlacKkKlansman, A Star is Born and If Beale Street Could Talk.
Incidentally, Black Panther is going up against If Beale Street Could Talk, which stars Fear the Walking Dead’s Colman Domingo, as well as A Star Is Born, which stars Gurira’s Avengers: Infinity War costar Bradley Cooper. That makes this year’s Golden Globes a veritable game of Six Degrees of Separation. (It also makes it hard to cheer for one movie over another, so we’re just going to root for them all)
Gurira ran into Colman Domingo at the BAFTA LA Tea Party last week:
Black Panther is also nominated for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
This year’s awards show will take place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The show will be hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg, and some of the other presenters in attendance include Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, both of whom are nominated for awards for their work in A Star is Born.
Best of luck to Danai Gurira on her big night at the Golden Globes!
The 2019 Golden Globes will air Sunday, January 6 at 5:00 PM PST on NBC.
