The countdown clock ticks down as January 10 marks one month before The Walking Dead returns, and February can’t come soon enough.

With only one month until The Walking Dead returns, the excitement for the second half of season 9 is building. Every picture posted and every teaser shared leads to even more excitement even though the arrival of the Whisperers will no doubt lead to more lives lost.

Though the show is based on story arcs from the comics, these days all bets are off thanks to the departure of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes. With Rick (and Carl) gone there’s no telling where the show might go, though we do know that Alpha and Beta are terrifying, the faire is happening and there will be blood.

With the deviation from canon, it’s quite possible that the people who died in the comics won’t be the same ones to die on the show. This would be a good thing, as it would continue to shake things up. The continual shake ups seem to be necessary these days because they can potentially prevent spoilers from ruining big surprises.

(I haven’t read the comics but I have seen lots of social media posts about the faire, and it’s my hope that what people know from the comics isn’t what happens on the show, only because changing things up allows for new stories to be told)

The first half of season 9 was a refreshing departure from what many fans considered to be the slow-moving pace of seasons 7 and 8. All Out War carried on for two seasons and it’s nice to be in a place well beyond the war, with new faces, new stories and new threats.

With t-minus one month and counting to the mid-season premiere on February 10, it’s anyone’s guess what the second half of the season might bring. But if the second half of the season is anything like the first half, it’s going to be one heck of a ride!
