The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs returns to TV in a new project

The Walking Dead’s controversial decision to kill Carl is still dividing fans but Chandler Riggs is going back to his TV roots in a new show.

There’s been many controversial deaths on The Walking Dead but the death of Carl Grimes, played by Chandler Riggs since he was just a small child, was the most controversial. Carl’s death pushed forward the plotline that led to Rick sparing Negan’s life and kicking off the events that led to the expanded The Walking Dead universe.

But even though Carl’s legacy is huge fans were divided about the death, which many saw as unnecessary and unfair to the young actor. Chandler’s performance in his last episode “Honor” showed a maturity that many actors twice his age would envy and some fans thought that The Walking Dead made a mistake by letting Riggs go.

In the time since Carl’s death on the show Riggs has been in a couple of movies but hasn’t found any long term work that mirrored the big time commitment he made to The Walking Dead. However earlier this week he tweeted that he is returning to TV:

What the show is and where it will air are still being kept under wraps but it’s a relief to see that this talented young actor is going to be once again using his considerable acting skills for TV. Whether you think that Carl’s death was justified or not Carl’s presence on the show is definitely missed.

Carl’s Legacy

In addition to having the most dramatic death on the show Carl may also have the biggest legacy of any dead character. His legacy of wanting the communities to come together and wanting Rick and Negan to make peace led to the end of All Out War and everything that came after it.

Michonne is still trying to honor Carl’s legacy and his younger sister Judith now wears the Sheriff’s hat and carries all the memories of Rick who wore the hat first and then Carl who took possession of it after he was shot by Otis and recovered thanks to medical help from Hershel.

Carl will always be part of The Walking Dead no matter how much TWD universe expands but TWDFamily wishes Chandler nothing but success in his new TV role. The Walking Dead returns for season 9B on February 10th.
