Steven Yeun film Burning snubbed by Oscars in foreign film category
By Adam Carlson
Former The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun impressed many moviegoers with the South Korean psychological drama Burning, but the Oscars didn’t agree.
Fans of The Walking Dead are used to snubs, but when a former cast member releases an amazing film or television show that doesn’t get the love it deserves from award shows, it is even more confusing.
Steven Yeun was amazing as Glenn Rhee on the AMC zombie survival drama series, but since then he has branched out and done several great projects, including voice acting, television shows, and feature films.
One film released in 2018 featuring Yeun was Burning. The South Korean psychological drama followed the story of a man named Ben (played by Steven Yeun) who meets someone from his former neighborhood and has a curious hobby.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film is a massive success. At the time of this printing, it currently has a “Certified Fresh” rating of 95% as well as an audience score of 87% and has earned huge praise from many reviewers including Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and Vulture plus a score of 90 on Metacritic.
With that amount of acclaim and love for the movie, it was no surprise when the Oscar’s released their short list of nominees for Best Foreign Film and Burning was included. However, the real shock came when the list of actual nominees was released and the movie didn’t make the cut.
Recently, Insider released their list of the biggest Oscar nomination snubs and Burning was among those who they felt got overlooked.
Although it may not win Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards, fans of Steven Yeun and The Walking Dead should definitely check out Burning at their earliest convenience. It is an impressive and wonderful film which showcases the range of one of the best actors from AMC’s zombie survival drama series.
