Angela Kang Delivers

Angela Kang and the team of writers have done a superb job telling the stories that need to be told in both episodes. The episodes don’t favor one character over another. They’re balanced, and they emphasize what needs to be said and done to move the story along.

Kang’s influence can be seen all over these episodes. She understands the show and she understands how fans view and perceive the show, and that translates to the feeling of satisfaction that permeates through these two episodes.

That new feel for The Walking Dead that began in 9A, the one that was fresh and refreshing at the same time, carries over into the second half of the season. Even as new mysteries present themselves, fans receive answers to questions about what happened during the time jump without weighing down the present-day narrative. I truly respect how Kang is making a great effort to make this season pay off for fans. I used the word “satisfying” for good reason: The mid-season premiere hits all of the marks.

Sure, there are a few moments that seem more contrived than others. There’s one moment in particular that will make fans scratch their heads, but that’s only after you finish jumping out of your seat cheering. It’s one of those moments where I was willing to set aside logic because it was just a cool thing to see and I think it’s going to be a very pivotal moment moving forward. In other words, how it happens might require a suspension of disbelief, but it’s absolutely necessary for the story and it’s a kick ass moment.
