With so much having already happened in season 9 of The Walking Dead, there is plenty more for viewers to dread…including the Harvest Festival.

Fans of The Walking Dead who have been watching season 9 have heard mentions of the fair popping up every once in a while. Those mentions are drawing intrigue from many viewers despite the threat of the Whisperers being teased as well.

The question that has to be asked is whether or not this fair is actually going to happen and what impact it would actually have on the survivors if it did? And when should people expect this event to actually happen?

In issue 142 of the comics, the Harvest Festival actually happens. People trade supplies and resources while mingling with people from other communities. It’s actually a pretty lovely affair with quite a bit of good stuff happening…until the Whisperers crash the party. As to not give spoilers as to what happens, it is an understatement to say that tragedy strikes.

However, there is a chance that the fair won’t play out that way at all. Instead, it could be a way for the divided groups to find a way to come back together to unify against a common threat and get items to those in need. But there is also a chance that it will lead directly to more heartbreak and bloodshed.

Entertainment Weekly recently spoke with showrunner Angela Kang about the upcoming event, revealing that it will be happening in the next eight episodes of the show.

"“Yes, we are going to see the festival. That becomes a part of the story for the back half of the season. We really dove into the idea of what this festival is in a real way for our people. “"

Of course, Kang isn’t giving anything away. During her discussions about the Harvest Festival, there is no real mention of any kind of tragedy or horror involved. Instead, she focused on the positives of what the fair can offer in terms of bringing people together.

"“We really get to see what each community is and how they’re even dealing with the very idea of this fair, because obviously, it’s been a point of some contention between the Kingdom and Alexandria. That’s a story that we see play out over the course of the back half."

Until the episode involving the Harvest Festival airs on AMC’s The Walking Dead, the events of the fair will be something for viewers of the popular zombie survival drama series to both dread and anticipate at the same time.
