Fans may still be wondering what happened to Heath on The Walking Dead but they don’t have to wonder where they can see Corey Hawkins in the future.
The last time fans of The Walking Dead saw Corey Hawkins on the popular AMC zombie survival drama series, his character Heath disappeared in season 7 episode 6 and his whereabouts have become unknown.
While we don’t know the next time Heath will be battling the undead, Deadline has shared some news that Hawkins has joined the cast of a high-profile film based on a popular four-time Tony-winning musical.
The project is a movie adaptation of In The Heights, which was a smash hit for Lin-Manuel Miranda. The project is directed by Jon M. Chu, who also directed such hits as Crazy Rich Asians, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.
Corey Hawkins will have the role of Benny, who is looking to win the heart of his boss’ daughter, Nina. He joins Anthony Ramos who is known for his roles in A Star Is Born, Will & Grace, and She’s Gotta Have It.
Hawkins has a wide variety of projects under his belt, including Straight Outta Compton, BlacKkKlansman, Romeo and Juliet, and was actually nominated for a Tony Award in 2017 for his role in Six Degrees of Separation.
Here is a synopsis for In The Heights as shared by Deadline:
"“Set in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights, the plot revolves around Usnavi, a college student, a taxi driver, a beauty salon worker and an old woman who aspire to better lives as gentrification begins to take hold, and a sweltering summer power blackout brings their personal life crises to a head.”"
At this time, there is no date attached to the film release of In The Heights but fans of musicals and The Walking Dead‘s Corey Hawkins will want to keep their eyes open for news and updates on the project.
