Steven Yeun reunites with The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman for Invincible

The lead role in Robert Kirkman’s new animated series Invincible will be voiced by The Walking Dead alum Steven Yeun and features a star-studded cast.

Robert Kirkman’s first project for Amazon is an eight-episode series based on his Invincible comic and Hollywood Reporter announced today that The Walking Dead favorite Steven Yeun, who played original The Walking Dead character Glenn Rhee, will be voicing the main character in Invincible.

Glenn was killed by Negan in the gut-wrenching season 7 premiere “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” but his legacy on the show lives on in his son Hershel Rhee and with Maggie. It’s nice to see that Yeun and Kirkman will be working together again. Yeun is very much missed as part of The Walking Dead but he’s had a very successful few years with roles in Burning, Okja, and Sorry To Bother You. He also is going to be a father to a second child with his wife Joanna Pak.

Steven Yeun will be heading up a very star-studded list of actors who will be voicing the remaining characters on Invincible. Mark Hamill, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogan, J.K. Simmons, Zazie Beetz, Mae Whitman, and Max Burkholder are just a few of the recognizable names attached to the series. A feature film based on the comic is also in the works, so while Invincible might not have the staying power of The Walking Dead it looks like it will be the basis for multiple interpretations and adaptations.

Invincible ran for 144 issues before ending, so there is a lot of source material to be used for the new animated series, the film, and more adaptations down the line. It’s the story of a man named Mark Grayson, who will be voiced by Yeun. Grayson is the son of the most powerful superhero on the planet. Mark starts to develop his own powers and to learn more about his dad’s past which may not be everything that Mark has been raised to believe it was.

With so much talent on board for this new series and Steven Yeun voicing the headlining character, Invincible should be at the top of the must-watch list for fans of The Walking Dead. But Invincible won’t air until 2020 so until then be sure to watch The Walking Dead season 9B which starts on February 10th to see another of Robert Kirkman’s comic creations brought to life when Alpha and the Whisperers appear on The Walking Dead.
