There will be The Walking Dead season 10, right?
Andrew Lincoln is directing an episode of The Walking Dead in season 10, and there are stories to be told…so when will AMC announce the show’s renewal?
The Walking Dead is heading into the back half of season 9 with the February 10 mid-season premiere. Though there has been a lot of talk about the show’s future, there hasn’t been any word from AMC that the show has been renewed for season 10. Not to worry, though: The announcement is very likely forthcoming, it’s just a matter of time.
Back in September I had a chance to sit down with Angela Kang, Melissa McBride, Danai Gurira and Norman Reedus at a swank hotel in Beverly Hills ahead of the red carpet premiere of The Walking Dead season 9. Over the course of the conversation there was a lot of talk about the story beyond season 9, and how Andrew Lincoln would return to direct in season 10. Though it hadn’t been announced at that point, showrunner Kang was already making plans for the future.
With the news that the world of The Walking Dead is going to expand into movies, limited series,specials and a host of new possibilities, AMC is all but certain to renew The Walking Dead for season 10 and beyond, especially given the boost in fan sentiment that came when Kang took over the franchise.
The next question, then is when will the announcement come along?
Ride with Norman Reedus returns for season 3 on February 10, after the the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead and Talking Dead. AMC already renewed Ride for season 4, weeks ahead of its premiere.
While AMC could make the announcement at any point, including in the days before the mid-season premiere, it’s also possible that the announcement will come when the cast appears at PaleyFest LA on March 22. That would be roughly two weeks before the season finale, and given all that’s set to come in 9B the renewal news would provide a nice little boost.

The bottom line here is that season 10 is all but guaranteed, and it’s just a matter of time before AMC makes it official.
