The Walking Dead Super Bowl teaser was a winner
With the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead just a few days away, fans were treated to a Super Bowl-themed teaser during the big game.
The Walking Dead might be a show about survival in the zombie apocalypse, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get in on the excitement of the biggest sporting event of the year, the Super Bowl. AMC released a new teaser for the upcoming mid-season premiere on Sunday, themed to the big game.
The folks at AMC know how to put together a themed teaser. The Walking Dead Super Bowl spot has all of the lights and noise of a Super Bowl commercial, but when it teases “the biggest matchup of the year” a group of walkers come out. But they aren’t ordinary walkers, they’re Whisperers.
Take a look at the new teaser:
The group of Whisperers is about to face off with veteran members of The Walking Dead family including Daryl, Michonne, Carol and Ezekiel, along with the rookie: Judith.
The Whisperers, with Alpha in the lead and Beta right there with her, aren’t intimidated in the least. Unlike normal walkers, they’re armed with weapons and their eyes reveal sentience beyond being a reanimated corpse.
Super Bowl Sunday was a big day for fans of The Walking Dead who subscribe to AMC Premiere. Subscribers were able to access the mid-season premiere at noon, a full week ahead of the show’s scheduled return.
There’s a lot to look forward to in the second half of season 9. Negan is on the loose, the Whisperers are closing in on the communities and the Kingdom is about to host a big fair. What could possibly go wrong?
This isn’t the first time that AMC and The Walking Dead have used a sporting event to promote the show. AMC also sent replicas of Negan’s bat, Lucille, to various baseball players during spring training ahead of season 8.
The Walking Dead returns February 10 at 9pm on AMC.
