Who was the most valuable person during the season 9 midseason premiere of The Walking Dead on Sunday, Feb 10, 2019 and how did they earn the honor?

With The Walking Dead finally returning to AMC for the big season 9 midseason premiere, fans of the zombie survival drama show finally got to see some of their favorite characters moving forward after the devastating actions of the Whisperers and the escape of a prisoner from Alexandria.

Each week there is a new episode of The Walking Dead on AMC, we like to take a look at some of the characters to determine who the most valuable person from the episode is based on their positive contributions and overall story arc during the program’s weekly installment of undead goodness.

For episode 909, there was a lot happening with new characters being revealed and old characters having some major changes, but one individual earns the MVP award.

The MVP from TWD 909 is Negan!

While there were a lot of stories going on, the biggest plot during this episode was the escape of Negan and his attempts to feel as close to normal were the highlights and really showcased the range of the character.

First, the developments of the Negan and Judith relationship are quite interesting, Although she knows why Negan was locked up, she has seen a softer and less dangerous side of the man and is willing to give him a chance at freedom. In addition, she believed in him enough to honor his word upon his exit and give him a compass to help him on his way.

Next, Negan going to the site where he was introduced to the people who held him captive and smashed in the heads of Abraham and Glenn showed a bit of the remorse and regret he had for his actions in the past. He also got back a signature jacket while escaping some hungry dogs.

Also, returning to his former home at the Sanctuary and seeing one of his former generals as a walker finally broke him down and made him realize that the world around him has changed so much that he doesn’t know his place anymore. The emotions expressed by Negan actually made viewers feel bad for the former villain in hopes he really has changed during his incarceration.

Finally, deciding that there is nothing outside the walls of Alexandria for him, he took a motorcycle and used it to return to Alexandria…even though he got shot toward (not at) by Judith upon his return.

Going back to the cell had to be a tough decision for Negan…and it will also be one that will likely baffle Michonne and the people of Alexandria. Perhaps they will see this as a turning point for him and feel he isn’t dangerous enough to keep behind bars with him possibly being able to contribute to society. If not, at least it is a nudge in that direction.

Other options for MVP during this episode are Daryl for coming up with the plan to get Lydia to bond with Henry and Tara for getting the people of the Hilltop behind her as the new leader of the community.
