The Walking Dead returned with a tearful goodbye to Jesus and the introduction of some long-awaited villains and as usual the fandom had feelings about it all.
The Walking Dead is finally back from winter hiatus and fans who have been waiting months for months for the show to return were rewarded with the arrival of Lydia and Alpha and the chance to say goodbye to Jesus and some delightful Negan and Judith interactions.
While Michonne, Aaron, Yumiko, Magna, Eugene, Daryl, and Dog were taking Jesus’ body back to Hilltop Negan took advantage of the absence of many of the adults of Alexandria to slip away. Judith caught him trying to leave over the wall but agreed to let him go as long as he didn’t return. She warned him that if she saw him again she’d shoot him.
Which is exactly what she did when she saw Negan on the main road back to Alexandria after he realized that the Sanctuary was nothing but an empty shell and all his people were gone. Judith didn’t hurt him but she did keep her word and shoot. Their relationship is a joy to watch and it’s clear that while they have respect for each other Judith is not fooled by Negan.
But for the group from the Hilltop things went bad quickly when the Whisperers attacked again. They managed to capture one of the Whisperers who turned out to be Lydia, Alpha’s daughter. And Alpha herself appeared at the end of the episode taking Luke and Alden hostage. Fans had a lot of thoughts about Negan’s escape, Jesus’ death, and finally getting to see Lydia and Alpha come to life:
