Lydia tells Daryl that his father used to sing to her when she was scared. She was only 5 or 6 back then. Daryl says her mom did what she had to do. Lydia pulls on her ear again so Daryl tosses the pills to her, telling her that there are good people there who will help if she agrees to help them. Lydia asks for water to take the pills so Daryl gets the ladle. Lydia tries to attack him and Daryl grabs her arm, noting the scars on her skin.

Yumiko wants to go back out but Magna doesn’t want to risk their second chance by going against Tara. Kelly says Luke would want them to be together, and she says they could sneak out because she saw some kids do it a few nights prior. Yumiko says they should go after Luke no matter what. “Ride or die,” she says. Magna begrudgingly agrees. It’s unanimous.

That night Daryl goes to the cell with a tree branch, telling Lydia that some fathers will find any excuse to beat their kids. They’ll use whatever they can find, but a switch from a tree will work. Daryl says her father sounds like that, but it doesn’t make sense that her father would sing to her when she was scared. The bruises come from a beating, and since her father is dead they must have come from her mom. He wants to know why she’s protecting her mother. Lydia insists that Hilltop isn’t real. Her mom walks with the dead because that’s how the world works. When you stay soft people die. That’s why her mom beats her.

In the past, they discuss how to get Matias’ body out before it smells. Frank goes to Lydia and comforts her, telling her not to worry. Her mom shaved her head. Frank says everything will be alright in the morning.

Later that night while everyone is sleeping little Lydia gets up and goes to Mattias’ body. His hand is hanging out from under the blanket. She pulls the blanket back and looks at his dead face. She puts it back and goes to walk away, but he has started to change. He sits up ad comes after she. She screams, and Frank runs to help her. Mattias tackles him and kills him.

Daryl says that she was a little girl. Lydia says she deserved to die for being soft. Daryl says they’re building the world up again and she thinks he doesn’t belong there. He walks away while she demands to know what happened to him.

Outside, Yumiko and Magna make their exit from Hilltop. They go under the fence, unseen.

Daryl emerges from the cell and Henry is there waiting. He’s still upset that Daryl used him when he could have asked, but Daryl thinks Lydia is useless and he’s tired of dealing with Tara’s problem. Henry wants to know what will happen to her, and he wonders if someone used to beat him too. He tells Daryl that Ezekiel asked why she kept her hair short and it’s because her first husband used to grab her by the hair and throw her against the wall so one day she cut it. It took her this long to feel safe enough to grow it out again. Henry says Daryl acts like a jerk who slams people into walls, but he’s not. He insists that Lydia is scared and Daryl can show her she’s safe, but Daryl says it isn’t something he can prove alone.
