The Walking Dead: How much do the Whisperers know already?
The Whisperers have arrived on The Walking Dead and Daryl is trying to figure out how much they know. The reality is they probably know a lot already.
For fans of The Walking Dead who wanted to throw their remote controls at the television after Henry provided Lydia with a road map to the Kingdom, at this juncture it’s probably already a moot point. The fact is that wandering around seemingly aimlessly will yield a surprising amount of information because no one knows that the walkers are paying attention.
Security is always a concern in the apocalypse. As soon as groups find a safe shelter, the first order of business is to protect that shelter so that no one comes along and takes it away.
In the case of the Whisperers’ arrival, it’s quite possible and more than likely that they’ve known about the communities for a while. After all, they’ve been meandering through the fields and along the roads for a while. They’ve seen things. They might have been present for bits of conversation shared when no one thought anyone was around to listen.
Daryl is one of the people who suspects that the Whisperers have been around for a while and that there are more of them out there. Sure, Henry gave Lydia a roadmap to the Kingdom, but if the Kingdom is a day’s ride away they could have passed by already, scouting the area.
Think of all the times we’ve seen scenes of walkers milling about outside the gates of the communities, especially at night. No one bothers those walkers because they’re not bothering anyone, so how do we know we’re not seeing Whisperer scouts checking out the walls and the defenses?
It’s foolish to ignore the very real possibility that Alpha and her followers have a very good idea of how many people are around the area. The bigger and more important question is what they’re prepared to do with that knowledge. Based on what Lydia said it doesn’t sound like they’re looking for places to stay, but you never really know.
