13) Lydia eating worms is reminiscent of Daryl doing the same thing as Rick’s group arduously trekked through Virginia in the Season Five episode, “Them”.

14) Just before she prepares to clonk Henry with a hammer, Lydia mutters about how “Places like [Hilltop] aren’t supposed to exist.” Apparently, at least some aspects of Whisperer philosophy mirror that of Season Six villains, The Wolves.

15) Lydia also says “My mom says they couldn’t, that’s why we had to…” before a crying baby interrupts her. What, exactly, did they “have” to do, and, how many times did they “have” to do it?

16) Random question: In Lydia’s final flashback, why did the guy with the ax attack the man trying to pry Matias off the bald guy? He wasn’t attacking Matias, so…what was Ax Guy doing?

17) In Lydia’s final flashback, as she recalls her group’s descent into chaos following Matias turning, she remembers her father trying to convince Alpha that they had to stay and help the others, because “They’re our friends”, to which Alpha replies “They’re not our friends. They’re just the idiots we got stuck with.” This outlook on the rest of their group makes Alpha seem similar to Paula, who revealed having a similar view of her boss (Who she was stuck with at the beginning of the outbreak) in the Season Six episode, “The Same Boat”.

18) In a clever effort to ensure Alpha is not humanized, at no point in this episode is she ever referred to by her real name.

19) This episode may get its name from verse 22:13 in The Book Of Revelations: “I am The Alpha and The Omega, The First and The Last, The Beginning and The End.” The fact The Whisperer leader is named “Alpha” would suggest the bulk of the episode (I.E. Lydia’s flashbacks) shows Alpha’s beginnings, while the episode concludes with her very much engrossed in her role as leader of The Whisperers, showing us “The End”, I.E. the culmination of her transformation.
