There have been quite a few jaw dropping moments from season 9 of The Walking Dead, but that one scene from “Bounty” might have topped them all. And Alpha just did something even Negan would never do.

Over the years, fans of The Walking Dead have seen some jaw-dropping moments. Negan, the former leader of the Saviors, delivered one of the top jaw-dropping moments when he and Lucille took out Abraham and Glenn. However, the latest villain in The Walking Dead universe just did something that even Negan wouldn’t do.

The villains of The Walking Dead world have a history of doing some pretty nasty things. The Governor was merciless enough, but his collection of heads was something that made him stand out for all the wrong reasons. Gareth and the Termites ate people. That’s no good. Negan loved to take his trusty gal Lucille and smash people in the head. Again, not good.

However, the arrival of Alpha and the Whisperers is a game changer.

The latest villain to grace the world of The Walking Dead did something so heinous and so unthinkable in “Bounty” that she takes the title for most terrifying villain: She told her follower to abandon her baby in a field, to become walker food.

The baby was crying and the mother couldn’t stop it, and with one glance Alpha signaled that the baby had to go for attracting too much attention. The simplicity of the gesture, done without saying a word, indicates that this was far from the first time it’s happened.

Not only that, but it now makes sense that Lydia would be triggered by the sound of a baby crying. She’s seen it before, too. Seeing a happy baby being loved by its parents is a far cry from the horrors Lydia has likely experienced, and knowing that it’s her mother giving the orders makes it worse.

The Governor had a daughter, and he had a soft spot for Meg during the time he spent going by Brian. The Termites, while likely not adverse to eating a child in the most dire of circumstances, would probably wait to let the child grow a bit more so there’s more meat to go around. (Sorry, but you know it’s probably true)

And then there’s Negan. We’ve already established that Negan seems to have a thing for kids. Even now, he’s watching over Judith because he respects her. Negan had a strict code about women and rape, so it’s hard to envision the former leader of the Saviors doing anything to a baby. It’s easier to imagine him taking the baby and killing a parent who broke a rule. (Even that is a stretch)

This is by no means a defense of the horrible things Negan or the other villains have done, but in all of the cases it’s hard to imagine that any of the villains we’ve seen before could be capable of killing a baby.

dark. Next. The Walking Dead 911 recap: Bounty

Seeing Alpha condemn the baby to death cements her place as one of the most vile villains in the world of The Walking Dead. Thankfully, the baby will live to see another day thanks to Connie and Luke. But this should serve as a warning for everyone: Alpha has no qualms about killing anyone. Even babies.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
